For a number of years, the municipality has been using the fan zone to receive supporters from the playing club to prevent them from roaming the city. The supporters of the Uitclub, in this case Galatasaray, are ‘forced’ to come to the fan zone on the horse market. They receive a voucher from their club, which they have to exchange at the fan zone for a real admission ticket. As a result, it doesn’t matter how fans travel to Alkmaar: they all end up in the tent on the horse market.
Turkish food and drink
There they can go for a snack and a drink, provided by Alkmaarse Horeca entrepreneurs. “We really try to make something fun out of it,” says Sil Vendel, one of the entrepreneurs involved. “For example, we have Turkish food and drink from local entrepreneurs on Thursday and a DJ who plays Turkish music, just like free WiFi.”
Buses are ready on the Kanaallkade to take the fans to the stadium. After the competition, the fans are dropped off again at the station or at the Olympiatric site, where visitors who can park by car can park. The entire operation revolves around keeping the home and fans apart.
That works well, says police spokesman Roderick de Veen. “We hardly keep people in the way we do it now. We have not seen any big disturbances this year. Everyone is on time in the stadium and also finds their way back home on time. That is how everyone just has one Nice evening. “
