Fans in Cologne ensure a record for the European Championship

The basketball fans set a record attendance at the European Championship preliminary round in Cologne’s Lanxess Arena. A total of 236,521 tickets were sold for the five match days of Season B featuring the German team, a number never before seen in a EuroBasket group stage indoors.

“Of course, that makes us very proud. The atmosphere in the arena was simply sensational,” said Event Director Wolfgang Brenscheidt, who is also Secretary General of the German Basketball Federation (DBB): “Many thanks to all basketball fans who attended the group stage in Cologne made a great basketball festival.”

The DBB selection stormed into the round of 16 at the home European Championship with three wins. At the beginning of the final round in Berlin on Saturday (6 p.m. / MagentaSport) we face Montenegro.
