HSV fans engage in a mass brawl with BVB supporters

After the Bundesliga game between Borussia Dortmund and the Hamburger SV (3:2) there was a violent confrontation in downtown Dortmund on Saturday evening. According to the police, supporters of both clubs engaged in a mass brawl that could only be ended with massive intervention by emergency services.
A total of 152 people were temporarily taken into custody, the police said. Information about possible injuries was initially not available. Criminal charges are to be filed for breach of the peace; further details are expected once the investigation has been completed.
After a strong first half, Hamburger SV suffered a bitter 2-3 defeat at Borussia Dortmund and lost important points in the relegation battle. After goals from Philip Otele and Albert Sambi Lokonga, Hamburg deservedly led 2-0 at the break before BVB came back in the second half. Particularly painful from HSV’s point of view: three penalties were whistled against the team, two of which were converted by Ramy Bensebaini. In the end, despite a good starting position, there was a defeat that hit coach Merlin Polzin’s team hard.
HSV midfielder Miro Muheim, who caused the decisive hand penalty, was correspondingly self-critical. “In the end it was a game with too many small mistakes from us. If you get three penalties against you, then you just can’t win a game like that,” he said. Regarding his own action, he explained: “I can’t pull my hands up like that. A stupid mistake on my part won’t happen again.” Despite the disappointment, coach Polzin swore his team would play the remaining games in the relegation battle immediately after the final whistle.
Hamburger SV has left striker Robert Glatzel out of the squad for the Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund for disciplinary reasons. Several Hamburg media outlets report this unanimously. The 32-year-old previously discussed his reservist role in an interview HSV described as “maximally frustrating”.
However, coach Merlin Polzin and sports director Claus Costa did not react to the criticism itself, but to the fact that Glatzel had given the interview without prior consultation with the club. “Bobby consciously decided to do it this way. That is not in accordance with the rules in our club,” explained Polzin.
