Family reasons: Darmstadt 98 initially without coach Lieberknecht

Lilien trainer Torsten Lieberknecht is currently looking after his family after his wife suffered a stroke and is missing training. It is unclear whether he will be back in action for Darmstadt 98’s home game against 1. FSV Mainz 05.

SV Darmstadt 98 has to do without coach Torsten Lieberknecht for an indefinite period of time. Because his wife suffered a stroke, the 50-year-old is currently with his family and will not be leading the training for the time being. The Lilies announced this on Monday.

“A stroke suffered by his wife Simone is currently requiring all of Torsten’s strength and attention. From us as a club he receives every possible support so that he can devote himself fully to his wife and his family,” said President Rüdiger Fritsch.

The assistant coaches take over

The units in the current training week will be taken over by the assistant trainers Ovid Hajou and Kai Peter Schmitz. If Lieberknecht is still missing on Saturday, Hajou will look after the team in the home game against 1. FSV Mainz 05. The deployment of Lieberknecht “is currently open,” the Lilies said.
