“Marlies was really looking forward to this trip through Latin America, which she had prepared down to the last detail. She was clearly enjoying herself in recent months and many people were able to enjoy it via her social media. It is therefore unpalatable that that adventure has come to an early end.”
“We understand that there are many questions, we have them too,” the family continues. “At the moment we have no choice but to wait for the forensic investigation in Colombia. We also want to have Marlies among us as soon as possible, so that we can say goodbye to her in a dignified manner. We hope that we can do this in peace as much as possible.”
No show for coffee tour
The woman was traveling through the South American country, where she was last seen on Monday last week. She was supposed to participate in a coffee tour, but she didn’t show up.
She was not seen again at her hostel in the city of Salento after that and when she failed to report to a multi-day horse riding trip she had signed up for, all alarm bells went off. The family called on social media to keep an eye out for the woman from Schagen and to share information.
Marlies’ body was found on Sunday evening in a small lake near Salento, her family previously confirmed to NH. The municipal council of Salento announces that it deeply regrets the death of Marlies and extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones. Authorities are investigating the cause of her death.
