Methanol in a bottle of vodka in a summer bar in Izegem, West Flanders, led to the death of Sarah Palaisy, a lively young woman from Diksmuide, in early June 2017. The summer bar promptly closed and instead of being a vibrant place, became the subject of investigation. That turned out to be a failure after more than 8 years: no suspects, no indications of guilt, no trial. And so the file is dismissed. “A slap in the face,” said the relatives. “The perpetrators go free, but we have lost Sarah forever.”
