Family of deceased Edgar receives hundreds of messages of support: ‘Inhuman’

Edgar’s family from Etten-Leur has been overloaded with reactions after daughter Marleen told how the family has been waiting for the body of her dead father for a month. On September 13, 58-year-old Edgar died of cardiac arrest while on vacation with her mother in North Macedonia. “Everyone is so very sweet.”

The family has been waiting for weeks to say goodbye to ‘their’ Edgar. After his death, Edgar’s body had to remain in North Macedonia for an autopsy. “We don’t know exactly how long it will take to prepare such an autopsy report. But we hope to have him with us in a week,” said Sven, Marleen’s husband.

“People are very sympathetic and do not think it is normal that it takes so long.”

The family is grateful for all the support they received both online and offline. “Everyone is so very sweet. People sympathize enormously and do not think it is normal that it takes so long. I received this bouquet of flowers yesterday,” she says, pointing to a vase on the dining table.

Marleen proudly talks about her father. “He was a very nice, sweet, crazy man who was in the middle of life. We used to make things very difficult for each other. He could be very irritating. But he was also such a nice grandfather to my two sons.” Her mother Hedwig has not yet had space to mourn. “Why does my mother have to lose her husband and then have to make phone calls for everything herself? That makes me angry.”

The Etten-Leurse has a bottle of beer tattooed on her arm to honor Edgar. “He was regularly found at parties and was in many photos with a bottle of Hertog Jan in his hand,” she laughs. “He always made everything for everyone. If something was broken, no matter what, he would come by and fix it. Sometimes to the great irritation of our mother.”

Her husband Sven saw his father-in-law as a “true friend”. “We receive a lot of questions from friends and family members. Just like us, they feel the need to say goodbye, to give it a place. Edgar simply deserves that.”
