Among the waiting relatives on the quay, mixed feelings sound about the use of their loved ones. Their loved ones always board their work. But does that feel different, with the current world situation?
“I’m waiting for my son Sander,” says one. “We are from Brabant. He is doing his day now and it is special what he is experiencing. Of course he does not say everything. For us it is different. With all the tensions in the world I sometimes find it exciting. But he really wants it and it is a great experience.”
And another: “We are coming from Venlo and waiting for Joël. They have been away for five months and then it is worthwhile to pick it up. Fortunately we have had a lot of contact, especially if he has WiFi. I find it exciting, but I found their previous trip through the Red Sea along the Houthis more exciting.”
