False promises and other prerequisites

Not completely unexpected, but ultimately surprising, Adi Hütter announced his departure from Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. The team knew nothing, even the coach himself only had clarity a few hours earlier. One reason for his departure is that the club could not keep what was previously agreed.

Adi Hütter had been in talks with those responsible for the club about a premature separation for some time. “We finally made the final decision last night,” revealed the coach on Saturday evening that his departure had only been finalized around 24 hours earlier.

He only informed the team of his decision after the final whistle, Hütter added: “The boys all stood up, there were standing ovations. That really hurts again.” At that moment he realized “that maybe not everything was wrong”.

But there is also no question that not everything was right. Not only on the part of the Austrian, but also on the part of the club. Before moving from Frankfurt, he assured him, among other things, of newcomers who never came. When asked whether he shouldn’t have started in Gladbach under these conditions, Hütter said: “If you’re honest, you have to say yes.”

Hütter criticizes the Gladbach squad: “Has to change a few things”

After the first talks with ex-manager Max Eberl, he was “full of energy, full of power”. “Max Eberl and I had good discussions about changing the squad and bringing in fresh blood,” said Hütter. But then “a lot of things didn’t work out that way,” the coach put his finger on the wound.

But he didn’t want this to be understood as criticism of Eberl, “quite the opposite”. Many things “just didn’t work out,” explained Hütter: “And then the results that we had hoped for didn’t come either.”

The trainer still sticks to his assessment from back then that the squad of foals is only capable of limited sporting success in its current state: “Basically, there is a good basis. But I think you have to try to do some things change.”
