Florian Lipowitz defends the white jersey before the tour of the tour. The other top stars are also easy on the day before the Col de la Loze. The mass sprint is overshadowed by a fall.
The 17th stage of the Tour de France was decided in the mass sprint – with the better end for an Italian. Jonathan Milan prevailed after 160.4 kilometers from Bollène to Valence in the final spurt against Jordi Meeus and Tobias Lund. For the 24-year-old, it was the second stage win at this year’s Tour of France.
The final was overshadowed on the last kilometer by a fall on the rain -wet road in the main field. Several drivers were involved, including top sprinter Tim Merlier and Biniam Girmay. The last thing was sitting on the street barrier for longer, afterwards the handlebar was only able to grab one hand.
As the best German, Phil Bauhaus only came to twelfth place in the city on the Rhone. “I didn’t fall. I was the last driver who got through. The fall was left in front of me, I was lucky that the bikes slipped to the left. It was very, very slippery,” said Bauhaus of the ARD.
A day after the abundant stage for the Mont Ventoux, Florian Lipowitz was unimpressed. The German young driver reached the goal in Valence with the main field and thus claimed both his third place in the overall ranking and the white jersey of the best young professional.
With a deficit of 9:03 minutes on the overall leading Tadej Pogacar and 4:48 minutes on the second-placed Jonas Vingegaard, the 24-year-old German is still on the podium course. Lipowitz has a lead of 2:01 minutes on Oscar Onley, currently fourth in the overall ranking.
The royal stage of the tour is waiting on Thursday with the 18th stage. The route leads from VIF to the Alps – over 171.5 kilometers and a total of 5,450 meters up to the 2,304 meter high Col de la Loze, the highest point of this year’s tour.
