The decline of 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2nd Bundesliga also continued under Markus Weinzierl. When the new coach made his debut, the “Club” lost at home to Holstein Kiel.

In the end, it was 2:3 (1:0) from the perspective of the Franconians, who suffered their seventh defeat on the 11th matchday.

The “Storks”, who had been inferior for a long time, achieved a somewhat surprising success with goals from Steven Skrzybski (62nd minute/80th) and Fabian Reese (66th) at the “Club”, who had clearly dominated the game for an hour. However, only Lino Tempelmann scored with a long-range shot (39′) and Christoph Daferner (90’+4′).

Nuremberg superior, but with few chances

The “Club”, which has now lost three times in a row, was initially very powerful in front of 28,518 spectators, but despite their great superiority, they only had too few scoring opportunities until the opening goal. Kiel was defensively good and hardly allowed any shots in and around the penalty area.

The hit by the Franks was then involuntarily made possible by Thomas Dähne, who seemed insecure at times and looked bad when Tempelmann shot a very powerful but durable shot. Tempelmann also had a second goal on his feet, but Dähne parried his shot just before the break well, and shortly after the start of the second half the Nuremberg midfielder aimed just wide of the goal.

Defense mistakes ensure Kiel cheers

The “Club” now created some very good chances and should have led higher accordingly, but revealed a great deal of weakness in the finish, as in the games under Robert Klauß. After a pleasant first hour, Nuremberg’s defense, which had been solid until then, suddenly went haywire. First, Skrzybski was allowed to push the ball through Christian Mathenia’s legs when it fell, and shortly afterwards Reese tricked Nuremberg captain Christopher Schindler, who was left alone.
