Facial tonic: what it is for and the best for the skin

THEFacial toner is perhaps one of the most underrated beauty products. Yet it is one fundamental step of daily cleansing: its properties are often not considered. And a simple wipe of a cotton pad is enough.

Facial tonic, what is it

Inserted between cleansers and make-up removers, the tonic is the classic “middle way” product that is applied after the cleanser and before the face cream.

Why is it called a tonic? Because it simply tones the “status” of the skin and its PH after cleansing.

What is it for

Its function? Each formulation has its own but in general the tonic helps eliminate the last impurities from the skin and remove soap and limescale residues.

When you rinse your face from the cleanser, the impurities are eliminated, but the skin is not yet perfectly clean. Among the invisible agents that undermine the skin even after cleansing, there is also limestone, which is responsible of a dull and gray aspect.

Finally, the tonic is above all a product “problem-solver “ which brings the skin back to an optimal state: rebalancing the epidermal acidity, so as to ensure maximum function in the following steps. R.Acidifying the skin maintains the degree of epidermal humidity unaltered. In other words, it allows you to keep the face hydrated, soft and the hydrolipidic barrier healthy.

For all these functions, the tonic prepares the skin better to receive subsequent products because it predisposes it to easier penetration of the active ingredients of serums and creams and to pray the skin to make up.

How to use

In liquid solution, it has an easily absorbable texture and it is easy to use: in fact, it is enough to apply it on a cotton pad to be passed on the face twice a day, morning and evening after cleansing. Furthermore, it does not require a subsequent rinsing with water.

The right toner for any skin, oily, dry or sensitive

It is essential to choose the right tonic. The formulas of the tonics, although also specific, always contain ingredients that rebalance the epidermis. Among the ingredients that tend to be present there are in fact chamomile that soothes, astringent witch hazel and purifying lavender.

Oily and oily skin should opt for a toner that contains approximately 5-10% alcohol and astringent ingredients such as birch, sage or witch hazel.
