Millennials and older Facebook users probably remember the “nudges” that were shared on the social platform with friends and relatives.
No one really seemed to know what poking meant, but it quickly became a form of communication. If you didn’t have anything to say to the guy, you could simply poke him.
Although the true meaning of poking is unknown, some may experience it as wordless banter, while others may associate poking with, for example, flirting.
Tökkäily has quietly made a comeback on Facebook, where it has once again become a small-scale trend.
Tapping made a comeback
In March 2024, Facebook published an update on its official page, in which it was said that the number of pokes had increased 13 times during the past month.
Tumbling is one of the platform’s oldest features, TechCrunch wrote at the time. It has been part of the service’s feature coverage since 2004. However, after the popularity of Tökkäily waned, it was hidden in the menu jungle, until in 2004 Facebook brought a completely new Tökkäily page to the platform. There is a list of bumping accounts and a compilation of bumping suggestions.
If your own tooth is indented, the feature is easy to use. You can either write “knocking” in the Facebook search field or alternatively you can go to the address www.facebook.com/pokes.
In the poke view, you can see the people who have poked you, as well as suggestions for potential poke targets. It’s quite a boulevard of memories, because my last bumps started 13 years ago.
