F1 Leclerc: “Montecarlo is adrenaline: the legend of Senna inspired me here”

The Monegasque from Ferrari and his home race: “As a child I dreamed of racing here, it’s a place that gives me particular sensations: I simulated the GPs with models, then they told me what Ayrton did there and…”

He can never be a GP like the others. The Montecarlo F1 GP, scheduled for the weekend (here the TV times), will always have a particular meaning for Charles Leclerc. In fact, he is from Monaco and grew up on the streets of the Principality, dreaming one day of being able to race aboard an F1 single-seater on those narrow streets that magnify the charm and difficulty of the Monaco GP. Before the 2023 race, the Ferrari driver talks about the suggestions of his home track.

unique feeling

“The Montecarlo track is adrenaline in one word: this is the fundamental element it is able to convey. It is narrow, the surface is bumpy and to go fast you have to trust your sensations. When you drive around in an F1 single-seater, you you have a moment to breathe and when you push to the max, in qualifying, a real adrenaline rush pervades you in the cockpit – says Charles in a Ferrari press release -. riders, but for me in particular, since it’s the track in the city where I grew up”.

“In Montecarlo there are so many special places, I grew up in Fontvielle, but the whole city is truly full of unique places and can offer the perfect places to do anything: sport, fashion, relaxation – continues Charles -. I personally love the Larvotto beach: maybe that’s my special place when I’m in the Principality”.

The Ferrari driver then recounts how the spark struck: “I owe my passion for motor racing to my father and to the fact that I was born and raised in Montecarlo: I was very young when from the balcony of a friend’s house who lived in Saint Devote, I saw the cars whizzing by and I simulated the same scenes with the Formula 1 models – explains Leclerc – Then thanks to my father I met the legend of Ayrton Senna and I was able to see what he was capable of in Monaco, so I started dreaming that one day I too could be among the protagonists here: being able to ride today on the same track that helped make him a legend is something very special for me”.

On his expectations for the race, Leclerc expresses himself as follows: “In the last two years we took pole, but I wasn’t able to make it happen on Sunday. Now the car is less competitive than in 2022, we’ll see how it goes, but I will always give my best.” – he told RMC Sport during a charity football match at the Louis II stadium in Monaco – I think Red Bull is the strongest on all circuits, but if we can put everything together, on a circuit like this the driver can make the difference”.
