F1 insider taps location/time for Hamilton fix message

Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the 2023 season. Although both the driver and the Formula 1 team have been emphasizing for a few months now that they want to extend the contract, there is still no fixed message. According to an insider, this could now take place at a Grand Prix that is very special for Hamilton.

Since the beginning of the year, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have been keeping Formula 1 fans and, above all, Mercedes fans in suspense: is the record world champion in the premier class of motorsport going into his twelfth year with the Silver Arrows or not? In between, the 38-year-old was even associated with a move to Ferrari. But the rumors were shattered, both Scuderia and Hamilton denied.

Instead, both Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and the F1 veteran recently emphasized again at the Canadian Grand Prix that an agreement (on at least another year of the contract) is not far away.

According to Formula 1 insider David Croft, Hamilton’s fans have to be patient for exactly two more races. Because, as the “Sky Sport F1” commentator explained, a new contract will definitely be agreed promptly and the fixed message will be announced at Hamilton’s home Grand Prix in Silverstone.

Formula 1 fans are looking forward to Hamilton extension

Formula 1 is a guest here from July 7th to July 9th. Hamilton has always been frenetically celebrated at Silverstone, including a dip in the crowd in the past.

Before the race in Great Britain, however, the Austrian GP and the local sprint will be held (June 30th to July 2nd). Hamilton’s future should be officially settled in two weeks.

“The devil is in the details. Lewis wants to stay with Mercedes. Mercedes wants to stay with him. That will work out,” said Croft, explaining what was lacking recently: “It’s no longer about the money, it’s about the support for the Hamilton Commission, [die sich dafür einsetzt, dass mehr Schwarze den Weg in den Motorsport finden/d.Red.] and to support Hamilton in the many different things he has in store for the future – such as an ambassador role.”

With all that settled, an announcement at Silverstone would be a “logical thing,” Croft continued.
