The Fijnaartse Sisters Lisa, Amy and Shelly, better known as eyes, are back with a new album: Garden of Hera. The album sounds and feels different than everything they made before. “But we feel closer to ourselves. This album is a step forward,” they say in the TV program Friday.
After their victory at The Voice of Holland in 2014 and successful albums We got this (2016) and Straight to you (2019), it was time for something new. “We never really had the space or time to experiment creatively, while we had the feeling that there was more to it.” They have worked on the new album for three years. “There was no pressure behind it, so we could quietly look for the floor. With the new album we got closer to ourselves,” says Amy.
That resulted in the new album with a different sound than the more pop -like albums and covers that eyes did for this. Garden of Hera Has many influences from the R&B, Pop and Dance. The well -known harmonies are still there, but are mixed with strings and quiet sounds. “Tougher, more mature, but still recognizable eyes,” they think. “It feels familiar, this new style,” says Amy. “Friends and acquaintances also say they really recognize us in this.”
Such a change is of course not without risk. “Your fans are used to you and then you make a cover. That is exciting,” admits Lisa. “But we also assume that some people love the music we made and don’t like the new stuff. That is part of it, so we will take that into account in advance.” That meant that the real reaction of the many fans was not so bad: “Fortunately, we mainly get positive reactions,” Lisa shines.
With a new album, the fire was fueled in the sisters. “We have champagne bottles in the fridge on which dreams and goals are on. If we achieve them, then we can open them,” says Amy.
Eyes now dreams of a first live show with the new repertoire and hopes for a successful tour, perhaps even abroad. “Music stays at number one for us,” says Shelly. “We are not nearly ready yet!”
