Due to the persistent icy conditions, it is currently extremely slippery on the roads, cycle paths and footpaths, especially those in the Bruges region. The gritting services have been active since the early hours, but even gritted roads can remain treacherously slippery in places.
The emergency service of the AZ Sint-Jan in Bruges is also currently running at full speed, 40 patients have already arrived because they fell due to slippery conditions. Emergency planning West Flanders has already reported that extra ambulances are on standby for additional calls for accidents.
Jan De Keyser, mayor of Oostkamp, calls on everyone to limit movements to what is strictly necessary and to be extra careful if you have to go on the road.
