The fire was reported around 4:15 am, after which the fire brigade quickly scaled up to the signal ‘major fire’. Emergency services from Den Helder also headed to the south side of the island. On location it turned out that an air conditioning system on the roof had caught fire.
Despite the ferocity of the fire, the fire brigade had the fire under control within twenty minutes. The building was extensively checked for spreading fire, but this turned out not to be the case. There were no people in the area when the fire broke out, so no injuries were reported.
