With Hiroki Ito, Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy, VfB Stuttgart lost three key players last summer. There were also rumors of Angelo Stiller being sold, but in the end the 23-year-old stayed and is one of the mainstays this season too. In order to bind the national player to the club for longer, a contract extension including a salary increase is needed.
“We have been in good discussions for a long time,” confirmed sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth on “Sky”, but kept a low profile beyond that. “Of course we don’t want to reveal any details publicly. We will go public when things become more concrete, when we have results to report.” For Stiller himself, these results are likely to be primarily of a financial nature. The left-footed player currently earns around 2 million euros a year until the end of his contract in 2027. With a market value of 32 million euros – there was a 4 million plus in the December update – he is the most valuable player in the VfB squad after Enzo Millot (€42 million) and will soon also be one of the top earners.
Stiller has earned this claim thanks to consistently good performances over the past year and a half, which have brought him onto the list of FC Barcelona and AC Milan, among others. Together with goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, the Munich native is the long-running favorite at VfB this season (2,070 minutes each; statistics) and was in Sebastian Hoeneß’s starting line-up in 23 of 25 games. He recently said about Stiller: “He realizes that he occupies a central position here. That’s why I hope he wants to take the next steps here.”

A contract extension would greatly increase the chances of this happening. However, an announcement cannot be expected in a timely manner, said Wohlgemuth. “That may take some time. He is one of our most important players, an absolute cornerstone.”
