Twelve houses were evacuated on Friday night after a fire broke out around 1 am in an upstairs apartment at the Diederikhof in Waalwijk. The fire probably started because the residents, two men, were tinkering with fireworks.
The fire brigade arrived quickly and quickly brought the fire under control. While extinguishing the fire, the fire brigade found the explosive material in the house where the fire was raging. It was then decided not to allow the 25 residents of the evacuated houses to return to their homes for the time being.
The Explosives Reconnaissance Team Leader (TEV) of the police came to the Diederikhof and investigated the house where the fire broke out. Assistance was then requested from the Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) to secure the explosive material found.
