It may be hard to believe that a star located 93 million miles from Earth could impact us. But yet it is so. Zucca conducts research into intense solar eruptions, where clouds of charged particles are emitted. “We notice that on earth when we see the Northern Lights. We all find that very beautiful,” Zucca explains.
“But when the charged particles reach our atmosphere, they can disrupt the Earth’s magnetic field. This leads to radio interference. This can have drastic consequences for our communications networks.”
