When bus driver Jerko Tipurić (64) hears how high he finished in this election, he can’t breathe for a moment. Since his bus broke down on the train tracks in Zedelgem on November 29 and he coolly saved the lives of 16 teenagers, he has been under a shower of emotions. Sometimes the water is warm, sometimes ice cold. “All the traumas that I thought had been dealt with are resurfacing. The sexual abuse from my childhood, the frustration with my coaching career, … but that’s okay. Finally I can come clean.”
