Exclusive Haunted Slot stuff is being resold en masse on Marktplaats

Not long after the exclusive books and pins from the Spookslot in the Efteling were sold out, a real trade in souvenirs started on Marktplaats. Nearly two hundred people offer the souvenirs for sale, often for double the price. And that while the items will still be for sale for the regular price on the Efteling website next week.

Early on Monday, there was a long line of hundreds of fans at the Efteling. They waited for hours to get one of the 2,500 books or 5,000 pins from the Haunted Castle. The attraction will be closed forever on Sunday 4 September and the souvenirs are a fond memory for many fans.

Everyone was initially allowed to buy five books and pins per person. According to a fan who was present on Monday morning, that number was quickly reduced to three books and pins per person due to the enormous interest.

Some people have known that. Many bought an extra book or pin and the souvenirs are now being offered for sale in multiples on Marktplaats. “Brought an extra book and pin in the chaos today,” a seller writes with the ad. Colin has also been smart enough to bring an extra pin. “Because this pin is very popular, I bought an extra one for the enthusiast. Please bid according to value!”

“I had to push people aside for it.”

Although fans in the Efteling paid 25 euros for a book and 7 euros for a pin, the sellers on Marktplaats charge a lot more for the souvenirs. Many books are for sale for forty or fifty euros. Buyers even bid more than fifty euros on some books.

Sellers also try to express in their description how much effort they went to get their souvenir, in the hope of getting extra money for it. “Waited in line for three hours, I have one set left. This is the first printing of the book,” advertises one of the sellers, asking fifty euros. “The first printing where there was an insanely long queue for this book,” writes another seller.

Timo tries to catch some extra money because of the crowds he had to deal with on Monday morning. “Very rare, I had to push people aside for it. So I want to cheer for it. You can also come and pick it up yourself, don’t go out for the time being,” writes Timo. For 550 euros, the lucky buyer can come and get the pin.

“Say NO to bag-filling resellers!”

The exclusive Spookslot items are still for sale throughout the week via the Efteling website. Due to the great interest, Efteling has decided that there will be a second edition of the book. The print run will arrive in October.

Several people have even put an advertisement on Marktplaats to let people know that the items are still for sale via the Efteling for normal prices. “Don’t get scammed by traders hoping to make big profits!” writes Joe. Another seller also warns people: “Don’t be a thief of your own wallet, and say NO to pocket-filling resellers!”

Fans were allowed in for the sale at 9am on Monday morning:
