Freiburg (dpa) – The display of an incorrect shirt number led to FC Bayern changing mistakes during the victory in Freiburg.
“It was a confusing situation. It was a double change and the wrong number was displayed. Coman didn’t feel addressed,” referee Christian Dingert told Sky TV. When Munich made it 4-1, twelve players from the record champions were on the field for a few seconds just before the end. Kingsley Coman had not left the pitch in time.
Before his planned substitution, shirt number 29 had been displayed. The Frenchman wore this in the past with Bayern, but now he wears the number 11. This is how the confusion arose. “We then noticed it relatively quickly, consulted Cologne and then continued the game with the referee’s ball,” said referee Dingert.
It was “very annoying that this one scene got stuck in such a great game,” added Dingert. He noted what happened in the game report. Now the German Football Association must decide on possible consequences. The Freiburgers are open to a protest against the game rating. “I’m firmly assuming that we don’t have to lodge an objection, but that there are rules. We are subject to these rules and we act accordingly. That’s my understanding,” said Freiburg coach Christian Streich.
