Former Werder professional Niklas Schmidt tore a cruciate ligament during training at FC Toulouse on Saturday. The Ligue 1 club announced this after initial investigations. Schmidt will be missing for several months, which means the end of the season for the 26-year-old midfielder.

FC Toulouse “supports Niklas through this terrible injury and will stand by him throughout, knowing that he will come back stronger from this situation. Keep your head up, Niklas, we are with you,” said a statement from the French first division club.

Schmidt moved from Bremen to Toulouse in the summer of 2023 for 2.5 million euros and has played 38 competitive games since his arrival, in which he scored three goals. In the current season, the Kassel native only managed 200 minutes of playing time in Ligue 1, spread over nine games. Schmidt’s market value is estimated at 2.5 million euros after a loss last December.
