Ex-Star Träsch believes in non-relegation

Former national soccer player Christian Träsch believes that his ex-club VfB Stuttgart will remain in the league under their coach Bruno Labbadia.

“He’s a good coach,” said Träsch yesterday about the Bundesliga side threatened with relegation by the German Press Agency. “Bruno Labbadia knows the right levers and the right buttons in the relegation battle and that’s why I think he’s the right man for VfB.”

Träsch made 21 appearances for VfB under Labbadia and wore the captain’s armband four times. He was only in the stadium last matchday when Stuttgart lost 1-0 to VfL Wolfsburg. “Everything is coming together at the moment,” said Träsch. “Passing was bad against Wolfsburg. But the crux of the matter is the head. It’s a dangerous way of thinking when a few players see themselves further up.”

Ex-Stuttgart star sure: “It will remain exciting until the end”

The now 35-year-old ends his career with the district league team FC Gerolfing. He knows the relegation battle from his professional days. Even with VfB, he only saved himself on the 33rd match day of the 2010/11 season.

“For me, VfB belongs in the Bundesliga. This club has no place in the second division because of the stadium, the team, the infrastructure and the fans. But it will remain exciting until the end,” said Träsch.

The club is currently in last place in the table. The gap to the relegation rank is one point before the 26th matchday, on which VfB plays at 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday (3.30 p.m.). “You can beat Union too. It’s not like you can’t plan any points there. But everyone has to fight, play for each other and run,” said Träsch.
