According to the “More” news agency, the Iranian judiciary has filed charges against the former national soccer player and former Bayern Munich star Ali Karimi.

According to the Mehr report, the judiciary has applied for criminal prosecution against Karimi because of “solidarity with the enemy” and the accusation of inciting riots. The Iranian judiciary itself has not confirmed the report.

Karimi is said to be currently in the United Arab Emirates on business. The former Bundesliga professional from FC Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04 showed solidarity with the protests right from the start.

For this he received encouragement from many Iranians who had taken to the streets against the death of a young woman in police custody.

The 43-year-old is one of the most popular players in Iranian football history and is adored by his fans as “Asia’s Maradona”. His possible arrest could lead to even more protests.
