Arjen Robben became the club legend in Munich. Then he returned to his youth club – and now takes on a new task.

Arjen Robben returns to his roots in a new role. From the coming season, the former Bayern professional will take over the U14 of his youth club FC Groningen. The Dutch first division team introduced the 41-year-old as part of a new team of coaches for the youngsters.

Byron Bakker, head of football development at FC Groningen, emphasized: “The fact that we were able to inspire Arjen Robben to become the head coach of a team of our youth academy makes us very proud.” Robben’s experience speak for themselves. The ex-international also leaves “a strong impression from the start as a trainer,” continued Bakker.

In recent years, Robben had already taken on minor tasks in the club’s young area and completed a trainer internship, among other things. After his career end, he also trained his son Luka’s team at the amateur club Be Quick in Groningen in 1887.

Robben played for FC Bayern between 2009 and 2019. He celebrated numerous championships and cup wins with the Bundesliga club. In 2013 he also won the Champions League with the club, scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 win in the final against Borussia Dortmund. He later ended his active career in Groningen.
