The former 100-meter world champion Fred Kerley has been suspended for the time being. This was announced by the anti-doping organization of athletics, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), on Tuesday.

The American violated his reporting obligations as part of doping controls, it said. Specifically, the AIU accuses the Sprinter the “non-compliance with the anti-doping requirements with regard to its place of residence”. Elite athletes are obliged to report their whereabouts – for example at training camps or when traveling – to enable unannounced doping tests.

Kerley won silver over 100 meters at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, became Eugene world champion in 2022 and won Olympic bronze in Paris in 2024.

The lock is another low in an already turbulent year for the 30-year-old. The sprinter was recently involved in legal disputes. Among other things, he was charged with domestic violence against his children’s mother in January. Two weeks ago, Kerley waived participation in the national excretion race and thus the World Cup in Tokyo in September. Exact reasons did not name Kerley, who had started his career as a 400 m runner, for his retreat from the US trials in Eugene.
