In the summer, Christian Horner had to leave after 20 years at Red Bull. Now the Brit is probably already working on his Formula 1 comeback.

Ex-Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is working on his return to Formula 1. As several media reports, the 52-year-old Brit is in negotiations to buy shares in the Alpine team. However, there are conflicting reports about the status of the negotiations.

While the English media is already writing about a breakthrough in the negotiations, the German “Bild” newspaper denies this. Accordingly, although there are negotiations, they are complicated and are still in the early stages.

The reports agree that there are certainly some shares for Horner to acquire. The investment company Otro Capital, together with a group of investors that also includes actor Ryan Reynolds and football superstar Patrick Mahomes, holds 24 percent of the Alpine team and is said to be ready to sell it. Horner has gathered investors behind him who want to buy the shares. However, Horner and his backers would have to find additional shares in order to become majority owners.

Horner was fired in July after 20 years as team boss at Red Bull. This was preceded, among other things, by allegations by a team employee of inappropriate behavior, which Horner always denied. In addition, there was a power struggle in the team and there was no sporting success during the first half of the 2025 season. During his time as team boss, Horner was able to win six constructors’ and eight drivers’ world championships with Red Bull.

According to reports, Horner is now seeking an even more powerful position at Alpine. The position of team boss is no longer enough for him. According to “Bild”, negotiations with Otro Capital about purchasing the shares will continue next year. Horner probably won’t appear at a racetrack again, at least at the start of the season next March. When he separated from Red Bull, it was said to have been agreed that he would not be allowed to attend Formula 1 races again until April.
