Ex-Bayern striker Claudio Pizarro is receiving great honor in his native Peru. He reacts emotionally.

Claudio Pizarro, former striker for FC Bayern and the Peru national football team, has been honored by the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) for his outstanding career in football. In a solemn ceremony, Pizarro received the award of Honorary Professor (Profesor Honorario).

“I thank you for this honor because I know that UPC is a university that is very supportive of national sports,” said Pizarro. “This is one of the things I always wanted to do and I hope that together we can help the young people of our country and work for their development.”

In his speech, the university’s rector, Edward Roekaert, emphasized: “The UPC has adopted models that we find in other developed countries of the world and that promote sport.”

With this award, the UPC not only celebrated the impressive career of Claudio Pizarro, but also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sports as an essential tool for the holistic development of students and the progress of the country.

Pizarro has made a name for himself in the Bundesliga thanks to his goal-scoring ability. With 153 goals, he is Werder Bremen’s record goalscorer and also won numerous titles with Bayern Munich. One of the most significant honors of his career includes the Bambi Award in 2018, at which he said: “It is an honor to receive this award as a footballer. The trophy will stand next to the Champions League.”

The former attacker has been honored several times for his contribution to sport. In 2016 he received an award from the city of Bremen and in 2019 he set a record as the oldest goalscorer in the Bundesliga.
