She actually belongs to the family of ex-national player Mesut Özil. But now Deniz Kosek apparently wants to stop contact with her relatives for good – even though she still had hope months ago.

After their wedding in October, Deniz Kosek actually wanted to take the last name Özil again. The step was intended to be a sign of solidarity within her family. But that doesn’t happen – instead, the half-sister of ex-national player Mesut Özil is now drawing a clear line in the sand.

The stylist explained to RTL: “For me, the fact that I wanted to use the name Özil publicly had nothing to do with my brother’s level of fame, but rather a family background of family affiliation, as my father’s children all have this name.” But now she says: “If you are so excluded and show such a bad family image, which is broken, and carry so much negativity through Mesut’s football departure and political paths – I honestly don’t want to be a part of that anymore!”

A trigger for the final distancing seems to have been her own wedding. Kosek would have wanted her father to accompany her on this special day. “I sent him an invitation, but then I found out later that he had moved without any information.”

The disappointment runs deep: “Personally, my idea of family is completely different and I pass on these values to my children in a completely different way. The renewed disappointment fits into the picture – also on the backs of my children and that’s enough for me now.” She now wants to work more on her own TV projects.

Back in the spring, Kosek, who once took part in the casting show “My Style Rocks,” struck a completely different tone. At that time she planned to use the name “Kosek-Özil” from May onwards. “I don’t want to move away from my family,” she said at the time.

Now she speaks openly about a final break: “I had already broken things off and was more or less persuaded or agreed to allow and establish contact again.”
