Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Bayer Leverkusen ended quickly. Now he is joining a club in his home country.

Erik ten Hag has signed a contract with Twente Enschede until 2028. The Dutchman previously worked as head coach at Bayer Leverkusen, but was fired last summer after just three competitive games.

“With my experience in youth work, team building and top-class sports culture, I would like to strengthen the technical basis of FC Twente together with the supervisory board, management and employees,” explained the 55-year-old during his introduction.

His goal is for the two-time Dutch champion to “sustainably exploit its potential as a regional figurehead.”

Before his time in Leverkusen, ten Hag was manager of Manchester United, but had to leave in October 2024 after more than two years in office. The former Bayern youth coach first attracted attention at Ajax Amsterdam, which he led between December 2017 and June 2022.
