On Saturday evening, Eljero Elia and his Lamborghini were traveling in the Netherlands. There was an accident. However, the ex-professional was lucky.
Ferred moment for Eljero Elia: The ex-footballer was involved in a violent car accident on Saturday evening. As the Dutch radio broadcaster Omroep West reports, the 38-year-old was on the A4 at Leiden at 9:45 p.m. with his car, a 300,000 euro Lamborghini 636. There was a collision with another car.
“I drove on a section where it is usually calm at this time,” said Elia. “Suddenly I saw that the traffic braked in front of me and came to a standstill. I tried to slow down, but I got into skid.” The former professional athlete said that he could no longer avoid because the car in front of him would not have switched on a warning flashing light after suddenly slowing down. “I could only prevent me from rising directly on him. I steered a little to the side, which I more likely hit him on the side.”
Elias Lamborghini was completely destroyed in the accident. Two other cars were also damaged, the report says. Happiness in misfortune: Elia was unharmed, just like the other people involved. “There is only damage to the cars. This is all. It could have been worse in any case,” said Elia.
The Dutch Vice World Champion from 2010 was still deeply hit. “Everyone is shocked,” said Elia. After the accident, he told the police what happened, then he went home.
The circumstances of the accident will continue to be examined. Results are not yet known. The highway was temporarily closed due to the scattered debris.
Elia ended his career in 2023. Previously, he had played in the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV (2009 to 2011) and Werder Bremen (2012 to 2015). He ran 30 times for the Dutch national team.
In 2013 Elia had already been involved in a car accident. At that time, his Bentley was destroyed on the way to the Dutch Cup final between Alkmaar and Eindhoven. “I was approached in this accident,” said Elia, but now clarified in terms of the situation at that time.
