Former midfielder Raphael Wicky was most recently a coach in Switzerland. Now he has found a new task.

Raphael Wicky has signed a contract as head coach with Sporting Kansas City in the North American MLS. The 48-year-old should lead the team to better results in the coming season.

Sporting Kansas City has signed Wicky to a two-and-a-half-year contract, which includes an option for a further season. The MLS team announced this. Wicky is supposed to get the team back on track for success in the season that starts on February 21st.

The former Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV player brings experience from his previous coaching career. From the end of 2019 to September 2021, Wicky was active on Chicago Fire. Most recently he coached the Young Boys from Bern in Switzerland.

Kansas City missed the playoffs last season and finished last in the Western Conference with just 28 points. The team has won the MLS title twice in the past, most recently in 2013.
