Ex-HSV coach hires in Moscow

The German Josef Zinnbauer is the new coach of the Russian first division soccer team Lokomotiv Moscow.

The 52-year-old was last with the Orlando Pirates in South Africa and replaces former German international Marvin Compper at the three-time Russian champions.

The ex-professional, who succeeded Markus Gisdol in March of this year, should continue to be part of the coaching staff. Gisdol had resigned from office because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. In Thomas Zorn, Lok Moscow also has a German as sports director.

“Marvin is the most important element in the coaching staff,” said the 52-year-old Zinnbauer in an interview published on the club’s website. He had spoken to him several times before. “We get along well, we have the same football philosophy. I can say that Marvin and I are on the same wavelength,” said Zinnbauer.

The former midfielder coached Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga in the 2014/2015 season.
