Ex-Galatasaray pro Maicon moves to FC Santos: “My father’s dream”

Only two months at Cruzeiro

Ex-Porto captain Maicon is leaving his youth club Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte after just two months and three games. The 33-year-old defensive veteran, who returned to the second division in January after more than 13 years, is moving to the Brazilian top flight to FC Santos, where he has signed a two-year contract.

Maicon, still the most expensive defender in Galatasaray history, had previously played for Al-Nassr Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from 2019 to 2021. The move to Santos is associated with “very great emotions”. “I can’t even describe how I feel now. I am fulfilling my father’s dream. It’s a team I’ve watched play since I was a kid. We’ve waited so long for this moment. Ever since I was a little boy, my father has always said that it was his dream to see one of his sons play for FC Santos, the team of his heart. And there is no greater pride than being able to fulfill this dream,” said Maicon.
