Ex-FC Zurich: Dwamena dies at the age of 28 – collapse on the field

Collapse on the field

Tragic news from the Albanian first league. As the association confirmed, Raphael Dwamena died at the age of just 28. The center forward from KF Egnatia collapsed on the field in the game against FK Partizani on Saturday. Due to heart failure, he had a defibrillator implanted in 2020, but had it removed almost two years later.

“I never thought about quitting. I am a believer, I have faith in God. He has a plan for me. If God tells me that I have to stop, then I will stop,” Dwamena had once said and: “I take all the risk on myself. If something happens, it’s my fault.” The attacker, who was most recently top scorer in the Abissnet Superiore, played for nine clubs in five different countries during his career, including in Austria for Austria Lustenau and Blau-Weiß Linz as well as in Switzerland for FC Zurich and BSC Old Boys. He was also active in the Ghanaian national team. He scored twice in eight international matches.
