Former Germany Under-21 international Orestis Kiomourtzoglou has made the move from Heracles Almelo to Heart of Midlothian FC. The defensive midfielder signed a contract in Scotland until 2025. According to reports, the Munich-born player will be paid a fee of 400,000 euros.

Kiomourtzoglou joined Heracles in 2019 from his training club SpVgg Unterhaching, for whom he made a total of 82 appearances (four goals/one assist). At Heart of Midlothian, the 24-year-old can now expect games on a European stage for the first time in his career. Although the Scots lost to FC Zurich in the Europa League playoffs, they will start in the Conference League. Friday’s draw saw Fiorentina, Basaksehir and FK RFS as their group stage opponents.

“I am very pleased that we were able to sign Orestis with a long-term contract. He’s someone we’ve had our eyes on for a while and it’s great news that we were able to get him here before the transfer closed,” said coach Robbie Neilson. “He will be a real asset to our midfield and his style of play will go well with the system we are implementing here. We’re building a squad capable of fighting on two fronts – domestically and in Europe – and having Orestis to be a part of that is a huge plus.”
