For Borussia Dortmund, the current season is anything but satisfactory. The ex-coach also has his share in that.
The chapter Nuri Şahin has been history at BVB since the beginning of the year. The 36-year-old had only taken over the team in the previous summer, but could not lead it to the road to success-on the contrary. Dortmund continued to slip over the course of the season and is still concerned with international business under the new coach Niko Kovač.
As the “Bild” newspaper now reports, Şahin is said to have been sold with some players during his tenure-or sometimes even before. When he had already worked as an assistant coach for Edin Terzić in the second half of the last season, a flippant saying by the ex-professional is said to have caused anger.
What happened? After a team training, Salih Özcan and Youssoufa Moukoko decided to practice shots on goal afterwards. Şahin should then have a joke and told the two stars that the extra training would make no sense for them. The saying was not well received by both professionals. Özcan is said to have communicated the Şahin. The relationship between the coach and the Turkish international was apparently tense afterwards – and Özcan was awarded to Wolfsburg as head coach at the beginning of Şahin’s term.
In a situation with Pascal Groß, too, Şahin is said to have behaved unfavorably. After the Champions League game at Real Madrid in October, the newcomer is said to have given the coach the impression that he will definitely be in the starting line-up at the upcoming league approval in Augsburg. But big found himself again on the replacement bench at the start of the game and apparently had little understanding. The topic is said to have quickly circulated in the cabin.
Overall, there were probably some players who were not satisfied with their personal situation at BVB. This was even included in the goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. The Swiss apparently bothered by the style of play under Şahin, could not identify with it – for example because the game structure was only solved in a playful way.
