Former Eintracht coach Härtel in conversation with third division team
Updated on December 5th, 2024Reading time: 2 minutes

Coach Jens Härtel has been without a job since leaving Eintracht Braunschweig. That could change soon. Apparently a third division team is keen on the 55-year-old.
The Eintracht Braunschweig chapter was an inglorious one for Jens Härtel. Hired in the hope that he would lead the BTSV into calmer waters in the 2023/24 season, he had to leave after just three and a half months in office. The balance: Eleven games, eight defeats, two draws and only one win.
The 3-0 defeat against then-promoter SV Elversberg was ultimately too much. For Härtel it was over at Eintracht, who at the time were bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga with five points. Successor Daniel Scherning then stabilized the team and led it to stay in the league.
Härtel, on the other hand, left scorched earth behind. Because his contract with Lower Saxony runs until the summer of 2025, he continued to collect his salary anyway. In addition, the 55-year-old demanded his non-relegation bonus as well as point bonuses for the period after he was hired and sued his former club. However, the planned court date has not yet taken place, and an out-of-court settlement was recently discussed.
Now Eintracht could at least get the 55-year-old, who once achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with 1. FC Magdeburg and Hansa Rostock, off their payroll a little earlier. Because: As the “Bild” newspaper reports, Härtel is one of the top favorites for the coaching job at third division club Erzgebirge Aue.
Head coach Pavel Dotchev recently had to vacate his position there after a crushing 5-2 loss against SC Verl. After 16 match days, Aue occupies an unsatisfactory eighth place in the 3rd league.
According to the report, alongside Härtel, ex-Aue player Rüdiger Rehm is the hottest candidate for the coaching job. Joe Enochs (most recently Jahn Regensburg), Markus Kauczinski (Wehen Wiesbaden), Torsten Ziegner (MSV Duisburg) and Alois Schwartz (Hansa Rostock) only have outsider chances.
However, “Bild” believes it is unlikely that a decision will be made before the away game against FC Ingolstadt on Saturday (2 p.m.).
