Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s long-awaited transfer to Chelsea is complete. The Blues officially introduced the 33-year-old striker on Thursday night. The former BVB goalscorer, who fills the vacuum in Thomas Tuchel’s team after the departure of several strikers, has signed a contract until 2025. He comes from FC Barcelona, which published the transfer fee. At 12 million euros, this is lower than initially arrived.
Chelsea increases spending on newcomers to 279 million euros. Only Real Madrid spent even more in a summer of transfers in the 2019/20 season with 325 million. Various media had even reported in the meantime that Aubameyang would switch for a sum of between 20 million and 30 million euros – now the sum is comparatively lower. In return, the transfer of left-back Marcos Alonso (31) to Barcelona should be announced shortly. The Spaniard, meanwhile, is said to be free and will be registered with LaLiga on Friday.

Chelsea FC: Aubameyang meets ex-BVB coach Tuchel again
With regard to Aubameyang, doubts about the transfer had recently arisen, at least in the media, after the Gabonese was injured in the jaw during an armed attack on his house. Chelsea are said to have then requested a medical opinion from the Catalans. It is unclear whether and for how long the attacker cannot be on the pitch.
At Chelsea, Aubameyang now meets his former Dortmund coach Tuchel again, under whom he scored 79 goals and 17 assists in 95 BVB games. Only under Peter Bosz did he have a better quota. The striker actually only left London for Barcelona in January, when he came from Arsenal on a free transfer. However, after signing Robert Lewandowski (34), he lost his regular place and only played one joker for eight minutes on the first two matchdays. In the second half of the season he had contributed to a part-time high and scored eleven goals in 17 LaLiga games.
Deadline day deals in summer 2022 with Akanji, Weigl & Co.
