Marcell Jacobs, Olympic champion over 100 meters and Italy’s 4x100m relay from 2021, has brought his lengthy injury problems behind. After his “failure in Turku” in mid-June, when he needed for his parade route in 10.30 seconds and thus missed the final, he drove to Munich to the sports doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, as he revealed in an interview with the “Gazzetta Dello Sport”.
Treatment with the former team doctor of FC Bayern (1977–2015, 2017–2020) and the DFB selection (1995-2018). “Everything went back to the usual blockade in the back. He treated me, and although I still have ups and downs, the situation has clarified.”
The fact that he could not call up his best performance in Turku in Finnish also fell back to “tension in the adductors and psoas area”. “At 40 km/h, the symptoms reappeared.”
Olympic champion of 2021 only thinks of the World Cup
In the meantime, Jacobs are looking at a little more optimistic about the coming weeks, which culminated with the World Cup in Tokyo (September 13-21). The 30-year-old is currently preparing for the competitions in Desenzano on Lake Garda. In northern Italy, Jacobs, born in the United States, were once raised. “I was looking for a summer base and the conditions are ideal,” said the sprinter happy about his choice. His center of life is actually in Florida.
Although he is still planning with a few meetings in August, the only thing that matters is the preparation for the World Cup in Japan. “The semi-finals will be the biggest hurdle there,” says the top sprinter. After his victory at the home European Championships in Rome 2024, he was only able to take fifth place at the Paris Olympic Games (9.85 s).
