Ex-banker Ablyazov called Kiev the place of coordination of protests in Kazakhstan

The headquarters for coordinating protests in Kazakhstan is located in Kiev, Mukhtar Ablyazov, a fugitive Kazakh banker living in France and the former head of BTA Bank, said in an interview. “RIA News”.

“Our organizational headquarters—more precisely, it was called the “Coordinating Headquarters of Democratic Elections of Kazakhstan”—is located in Kiev,” he said.

Ablyazov added that the headquarters began to work more actively as soon as the first demonstrations began in Kazakhstan. The organization was called by activists who were allegedly given recommendations not to deviate from the algorithm developed by the so-called opposition. The algorithm, the ex-banker says, has existed for more than four years and includes holding peaceful protests, fighting looting and simultaneously seizing administrative buildings.

The banker called the protests the realization of the constitutional right of citizens to rallies and rejected the idea of the Kazakh authorities that it was an attempted coup d’état. From Ablyazov’s point of view, the actions were peaceful.

Protests in Kazakhstan began in the country in the first days of January due to a sharp increase in prices for liquefied gas. As a result, 225 people were killed, including 19 security officials. The authorities believe that the demonstrations were organized from abroad. The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, noted that “they were trained and led by a single command post.”
