Ex-banker Ablyazov called himself the leader of protests in Kazakhstan – RBC

Former head of Bank Turan Alem JSC (BTA Bank) Mukhtar Ablyazov, hiding abroad, called himself the leader of the opposition and protest movement in Kazakhstan. He stated this in an interview. Reuters

According to him, “protesters in Almaty daily ask him how to act.” “I see myself as the leader of the opposition,” he said. He also added that he plans to return to Kazakhstan to head the interim government “if the protests reach the desired coverage.”

The number of people detained in Kazakhstan has grown to 4 thousand people

During the interview, Ablyazov called on Western countries to intervene in what is happening in the country in order to prevent rapprochement between Russia and Kazakhstan. “Kazakhstan is now a participant in the geopolitical game, and if the West does not fight back, then Russia will force the republic to become part of a structure similar to the Soviet Union,” the former banker said.

On the eve of Ablyazov, in an interview with RBC, he said that he was “taking part” in the protests in Kazakhstan. This participation, he explained, consists in many years of opposition activities, and the fact that people have now taken to the streets is the result of tireless campaigning work.
