A few months after his dismissal in Augsburg, Jess Thorup found a new job. He’s going to Egypt.

New club, new challenge: Jess Thorup has signed a contract with Egyptian record champions Al-Ahly. As the club officially announced on Wednesday, the Dane has committed to Africa’s current Champions League winner for two and a half years.

Until the summer, Thorup was still head coach at Bundesliga club FC Augsburg. He was released there after a good one and a half years in office. His successor was Sandro Wagner, who had previously worked as an assistant coach under Julian Nagelsmann at the German national team.

Al-Ahly is one of the most successful clubs on the continent, having secured the Egyptian championship 45 times and the African Champions League twelve times.
