★★★★1/2 Perhaps the contemporary viewer is already used to the “multiverse” concept, which is the latest fashion in superhero movies (Spiderman and Dr. Strange through), that is, there are infinite alternative realities and people who can travel through them. A trick that makes it possible to overcome inconsistencies, it is true, but also a perfect metaphor for our reality altered by the (almost) infinite possibilities that the Internet opened thanks to the virtual. This film is the story of an ordinary, all-too-ordinary woman (the extraordinary Michelle Yeoh, martial arts genius and gigantic actress, as well as a great comedian) who has the chance to save every possible reality. The bottom of the story is, finally, the question of what is essential when the surface changes even radically. At the same time that he comments with humor and satire on all contemporary great spectacle cinema, he asks himself questions. Above all, it asks about the “I”, who we are and why we are where we are (wherever we are). And she does it with the same spectacular tools of other cinema, taken to the absurd and surreal extreme that more than one sequence is related to the classic cartoon (that other comment from the contradiction about the flaws of reality). Probably the movie of the year, even with its excesses and simplifications.
