British pop duo Everything But The Girl will release their comeback album FUSE on April 21, 2023. It is their first record in 24 years. The first single “Nothing Left to Lose” was released on January 10th, the video of which can be seen here.

Tracey Thorn and Ben Watts wrote and produced the 2021 album. They try to give a modern interpretation of the electro soul that the musicians developed in the 1990s. “The concrete sound was actually the last thing that mattered to us when we started in March 2021,” Thorn said of the making of the album. “Of course we were aware of the pressure that comes with such a long-awaited comeback. We tried to start in a spirit of open playfulness, still without clear direction and open to new things.”

During the recordings in the studio there was also friction between the singer and her husband. But: “Even though we downplayed it initially, it was as if something had been ignited. And it ended up in a kind of union, an emotional fusion. It felt very real and alive,” Thorn said.

    FUSE track listing:

    • Nothing Left To Lose
    • Run a Red Light
    • Caution to the wind
    • When You Mess Up
    • Time and Time Again
    • No One Knows We’re Dancing
    • Lost
    • forever
    • Interior Space
    • karaoke

Everything But The Girl broke into the UK in 1982 with a cover of Cole Porter’s “Night and Day”. In 1994 they released their biggest hit “Missing”. With the remix by Todd Terry, the group achieved international fame. The musicians released their last album TEMPERAMENTAL in 1999. A year later they decided to dissolve Everything But The Girl. Thorn has since worked as a solo musician, and Watts as a DJ and remix artist.
