“Everyone wanted to come to the gig and cry”

Emma award-winning singer and songwriter Yona has impressed her audience with her songs that cross genres, where she sings about her life experiences.

Singer-songwriter Johanna Rasmus that is, Yona has managed to make eight albums already during her career. In the Only Life program, he gets to hear his songs performed by others.

– Various feelings like the colors of the rainbow and more. The whole program was a crazy blast, he describes his experience in the program.

Artist’s The clouds move, I don’t -debut album was released in 2010. On it, Yona was able to perform for the first time her songs combining several different genres of music. In his music, he combines hits, jazz and pop, among other things.

Based on the first album, Yona was awarded the 2010 newcomer Emma. This year he received the Critics’ Choice Emma for his album A dream from which I wake up which he made together with Tapiola Sinfonieta. The same album also received the Teosto award.

– It is also nominated for the Nordic Counsel Music Prize, which is really big and prestigious, says Yona excitedly.

– Perhaps, however, I am best known for the production of my eight albums and my rather long career, he adds modestly.

Throughout his long and varied music career, the singer has spoken openly about his life. He has experienced both divorce and burnout, which greatly affected his everyday life.

– I don’t feel any shame that I openly talk about the painful moments in my life that I’ve been in. It’s just humanity, if a person breaks down and is a scrap, that’s life, he affirms.

Yona, who is open about her affairs, can also be seen in the Only Life episodes. He hasn’t seen his day’s episode yet, but reveals that it contains emotions and open discussion. He also experienced a surprisingly strong emotional reaction during one performance.

– On my day, one performance was such that it felt as if my legs had gone out from under me. It was like many years of therapy, it hit so hard. I cried so much that it was not under my control and my body was not under my control, he describes the situation.

Despite the crying, Yona’s moment was a wonderful and unique experience. For him, difficult experiences are today the richness of life. Performing and hearing her own songs on the sets of Vain läämää program was an incredible experience for Yona.

– There is very little threatening or negative in the concept of the program. Overall such a lovely game.

Yona has received a lot of feedback for her openness on social media and in her music. On his latest record, he says that he is wounded and broken. It appealed to his fans.

– We sold out the music hall in the middle of the corona period, when no one else’s gigs were selling. Everyone wanted to come to the gig and cry, Yona laughs.

With the display of humanity, many have identified with Yona’s songs and life situations. The artist hopes that he could be more present for his followers, even though he is not a professional helper, but a musician.

– I received 60 messages a day, long stories, where people told how they have been at that same point. I can give my experience and hope that someone will get peer support from it, the singer adds seriously.

Yona also made an impression on the filming of Vai lääää. Rap artist Redrama praises the singer with sincere respect.

– I’m talking about the people I’ve met in America, London and around the world, and Yona is the most talented person I’ve ever met in my life. I would use the word genius. His talent is something that doesn’t mean anything to others, Redrama describes thoughtfully.
