GeekBrains: every tenth Russian wants to quit his job and become a freelancer

More than 400 thousand people took part in the survey of the GeekBrains platform: schoolchildren, students and workers in various fields. More than a quarter of them would like to learn a new profession

Every tenth Russian wants to leave his job and become a freelancer, according to the results of a survey by the educational platform GeekBrains (available from RBC). The same number of respondents said that they were going to completely change the scope of their activities.

The study involved 419,926 participants of the GeekBrains platform, participants in training programs, master classes and own events. Among them, 45.3% are men and 54.7% are women. The majority of respondents (68.1%) are people aged 18 to 35, the smallest category of respondents is over 50 (3.4%). Basically, these are residents of million-plus cities: Moscow (24.8%), St. Petersburg (10.5%), Novosibirsk (2.6%), Yekaterinburg (2.3%) and Kazan (1.9%). The survey was conducted from February 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022.

57.2% of survey participants have higher education, 15.5% have secondary specialized education. A fifth of the respondents study at school, and 6.8% chose the “other” option. The salary of 23% of respondents is less than 30 thousand rubles, the same number answered that they do not earn anything. 27% each reported a salary of 30-60 thousand rubles. and above 60 thousand rubles.

More than a quarter (26.8%) of respondents said they plan to learn a new profession, another 12.6% want to find a side job or an additional source of income.
